    What is Hypnosis?

Everyone has an innate ability to go into a trance. At such times the busy conscious mind is distracted, allowing access to the inner mind and to powerful inner resources.

Hypnosis is simply a way of inducing and MAKING USE OF this naturally-occurring state. It is particularly useful where there is any kind of mental conflict, such as smoking, phobias, panic attacks, weight control, etc.

How can Hypnosis help with smoking?

When you struggle to stop smoking the sensible, rational part of your mind (your conscious mind) tells you that you want to be a non-smoker, whereas your inner mind which is governed by habit and body chemistry (eg nicotine levels) tells you different! Because Hypnosis talks directly to the inner mind, it can help to resolve that inner battle.

    Is Hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is a powerful tool. As with any tool, it needs to be used with reasonable care, so avoid the amateur hypnotist at parties!

However, a properly trained Hypnotherapist will easily spot the very few people who may not be suitable subjects for Hypnosis, such as those with a history of psychotic illness.

    How effective is Hypnosis?

The results achieved will depend largely on the skill of the Hypnotherapist. It will also depend on your attitude - nothing can MAKE you stop smoking, so you will need put some effort into it too.

    Can I be Hypnotised?

Virtually EVERYONE is capable of achieving the light to medium depth of trance necessary for most Hypnotherapy. Forget the films and stage shows - successful therapy does not rely on the deep 'somnambulistic' trance that most people think of as Hypnosis.

    What does it feel like?

Most people report feeling relaxed and dreamy, sometimes only half aware of what's going on, sometimes hyper-aware. You do not lose control.

How many sessions will I need?

This will vary according to the Hypnotherapist and his/her particular methods. Some offer single-session therapy for smoking, some take a multi-session approach.

    How much does Hypnosis cost?

Again, this varies according to the Hypnotherapist and his/her particular methods, and also the geographic location.

    What about money-back guarantees?

Some Hypnotherapists offer a money-back guarantee. Whilst some are undoubtedly genuine, don't assume that because they offer a guarantee they MUST therefore be good. Be wary if they also charge a very a high fee - it does not necessarily mean they are good: they can afford to give lots of people their money back if they make enough out of the others!

How can I find a reputable Hypnotherapist?

The author of this web site practices Hypnosis for smoking in the Herts area. See www.HypnosisPLUS.co.uk.

Find a Hypnotherapist who belongs to a reputable professional body as they usually insist on a certain level of training and qualifications, as well as adherance to a strict code of ethics and practice.

There are many professional societies to choose from. The problem is knowing which are the good ones! The NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy) is the largest and one of the best.
